Colours to warm your home
As the evenings draw in, these are the pieces that start to feel especially at home. Warm timber, tactile glazes, amber glass and autumnal shades of rust, moss, mustard and brown, all gathered together in one seasonal edit.
A vintage Danish stoneware dish by Royal Copenhagen, attributed to ceramicist Gerd Bøgelund. Its broad rim features a flowing border of stylised leaves, picked out in pale olive against a deep brown ground. The softly speckled centre brings together cream, moss green and warm brown, with variations in the glaze giving the surface plenty of depth.
£24
Danish stoneware vase made by Nymølle for Ceres Breweries in Aarhus, with a gently tapered shape and raised ears of grain repeated around the body. The mottled glaze combines pale olive and sage green with honey-gold highlights, deepening to a warm ochre around the rim.
£16
A small vintage Welsh pottery bowl with a glossy butter-yellow interior that blends into a deep teal pool at the centre. The outside combines soft green, cream and ochre glazes above a rich reddish-brown base, with fine brown bands following the gently flared rim.
£11
A wonderfully characterful vintage German Rumtopf jar, finished in a rich amber and honey-brown glaze with a distinctive textured surface and raised fruit decoration.
£32
A wonderfully sculptural piece of mid-century French pottery, most likely from Vallauris and dating to the 1960s. Its unusual openwork form is finished in a heavily textured cream and caramel lava glaze, with a vivid glossy red glaze spilling down from the upper section and a warm mustard-yellow interior.
£42
This vintage ceramic tiger prowls along with chunky paws, a curling tail, and a little flash of cream-coloured fangs. His glossy brown glaze is decorated with black stripes, with warm honey tones showing through around his face and feet.
£11
A big, bold Scheurich Rumtopf in a wonderfully rich red glaze, deepening into almost black around the rim, handles and base.
£27
A lovely little piece of Welsh studio pottery from Ewenny Pottery, with a wonderfully rich, moody glaze. Deep chocolate brown around the rim and handle gives way to warm amber, olive and earthy tones across the body, with all the lovely variation you get from a hand-glazed piece.
