Scheurich Rumtopf with Lid — Model 826
A big, bold Scheurich Rumtopf in a wonderfully rich red glaze, deepening into almost black around the rim, handles and base. The front is decorated with a wonderfully retro fruit design, complete with moulded ‘Rumtopf’ (or Rum Pot in English) lettering across the shoulder.
Originally made for the German tradition of preserving seasonal fruit in rum and sugar, these large ceramic pots have become great decorative pieces in their own right. This one has a particularly good shape, with little curled handles and a fantastic pointed lid that gives it plenty of character.
Made by German ceramics manufacturer Scheurich and marked 826-36 on the base. The base is marked Germany rather than West Germany, so while the design has its roots in Scheurich’s late 20th-century production, we’ve left the exact date open rather than pretending to know more than we do.
A brilliant statement piece for a kitchen, shelf or sideboard – and, should you suddenly develop an urge to preserve a mountain of fruit in rum, it can even return to its original job.
