Scheurich West German Pottery Vase – Abstract Floral Design
A vintage Scheurich pottery vase with a colourful abstract design that captures the playful, experimental spirit of mid-century West German ceramics.
Made by Scheurich, one of Germany's best-known pottery manufacturers, this tall cylindrical vase features a creamy white ground decorated with fine, horizontal brown brushstroke markings. Across the front, sweeping dark brown lines intersect with bold shapes in raspberry red, emerald green and golden yellow, creating a stylised botanical design with a distinctly modernist feel.
A deep teal band around the neck and earthy brown detailing at the base complete the design, bringing together an unusual but beautifully balanced combination of colours. The vase also retains its original Scheurich manufacturer's label near the rim.
Scheurich was established in Kleinheubach, Germany, and became one of the leading names in West German decorative pottery during the post-war decades. Especially successful in the 1960s and 1970s, the company produced a wide range of shapes and finishes, from richly textured Fat Lava glazes to expressive hand-decorated designs like this one.
