Playboy Magazine Collection – July to December 1963 Bound Volume 10
A wonderful piece of publishing history, this vintage hardback brings together six original issues of Playboy magazine, covering July to December 1963, the magazine's tenth anniversary year.
By 1963, Hugh Hefner's Playboy had become a major influence on American popular culture, combining its famous photography with serious journalism, literature, humour, fashion and lifestyle features. This collection captures that fascinating period, with its colourful cover artwork, wonderful mid-century advertising and contributions from some remarkable figures.
Highlights include a July discussion about the future featuring science-fiction writers Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke, a September interview with Richard Burton, and contributions from writers including Ray Bradbury and Alberto Moravia. There's also plenty of period photography, including features on actors Toshiro Mifune and Lorne Greene.
The six magazines have been bound together in a handsome golden-tan cloth hardback with gilt spine lettering, marked Playboy Vol. 10, 1963 (2). The binding shows some age-related wear, while the pages retain their lovely vintage character.
An unusual and highly collectable snapshot of 1960s culture, particularly appealing to enthusiasts of vintage magazines, mid-century design, advertising and social history.
