J & G Meakin Maidstone Teapot & Coffee Pot

A handsome pair of J & G Meakin Maidstone pots, with all the wonderfully restrained styling you’d hope for from British tableware of the period.

Finished in a warm, finely speckled brown glaze, both pieces have straight-sided bodies, angular handles and long, elegantly rising spouts, contrasted by their original off-white lids. The tall coffee pot is particularly striking, but the difference in scale and proportion means the two look especially good displayed together.

Made by J & G Meakin in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, the Maidstone range belongs to the company’s later production period, when its tableware took on the simpler, more architectural forms associated with 1960s and 1970s design. These examples likely date from around the 1970s.

A lovely usable pair, but equally good simply sitting on a shelf or sideboard.
