“Cathy & Carol” Concert Poster — The Jabberwock, Berkeley
Muted blue-grey silver lettering against a warm yellow background gives this concert poster a softer appearance, with an oversized shared “C” linking the two performers’ names. The generous spacing and relatively simple layout contrast nicely with the busier concert bills in the collection.
Advertised for 24 and 25 June 1966, the performers were Kathy Larisch and Carol McComb, known on record as Kathy & Carol, although this poster uses the spelling “Cathy”. Their Elektra recording connection sits at the top, while the description below promises ballads sung in close harmony.
Their appearance represents the folk and harmony-singing side of the Jabberwock’s programme. McComb went on to a long career as a performer, songwriter and teacher, and in 1988 wrote the reassuringly titled Country and Blues Guitar for the Musically Hopeless. It is a rather good footnote to a poster advertising such accomplished singing and musicianship.
