Jopeko Black & White Shrink-Glaze Vase

A cracking little piece of late-1950s West German pottery from Jopeko Keramik — see what I did there?

The chunky white shrink glaze pulls apart during firing to reveal the dark ground underneath, giving the vase its wonderfully exaggerated cracked texture. The glossy black interior adds even more contrast, while the tiny red, yellow, and blue raised dots are a particularly lovely Jopeko detail and are associated with the factory’s 1003 décor.

Small enough to sit almost anywhere, but with far more personality than its size suggests.
