Henning Kjærnulf for Vejle Square Coffee Table

A Danish mid-century coffee table by Henning Kjærnulf for Vejle Stole & Møbelfabrik, with a square top, gently tapered legs and the maker’s stamp to the underside. Its understated design gives the grain and warm colour of the wood plenty of room to be appreciated.

Golden-brown tones run through the timber, with darker, flowing grain across the tabletop. Softly rounded edges and corners are complemented by the curved transitions where the legs meet the frame — a lovely detail that’s particularly noticeable when viewed from the side. The slim legs give it an elegant profile without distracting from the generous square surface.

An appealing alternative to a long rectangular coffee table, it would work well in front of a smaller sofa, between a pair of armchairs or as a substantial side table. The simple shape makes it easy to live with, whether paired with other Danish furniture or mixed into a more contemporary room.
